Eating a lot of citrus or spicy foods will probably cause problems but in moderation they can usually be taken occasionally. When on an acid reflux diet, people should avoid a lot of tomato products. These products are high in acid which can activate a reflux occurrence. Foods that contain garlic and onions should also be avoided. These foods can be taken in small amounts, but it is best to limit their intake. The same goes for chocolate and fried foods. These foods which tend to be heavy, take up more room in the stomach. Foods that contain complex carbohydrates are good for an acid reflux diet. Foods like bread, pasta, and rice incline to soak up the acid and stop it from rising up in the esophagus. These foods tend to increase the weight, thus it is best to eat smaller portions of them. If you drink milk, change to a low-fat milk. When cooking, avoid frying foods as much as possible. Baked or broiled will serve two purposes; one, it will help manage acid reflux symptoms and two, help to keep a lower weight. Do not drink alcohol, particularly fruit wines. Drinking significantly increases you risk of experiencing acid reflux. Change to drinks that have no carbonation. Decaf tea or coffee is good but water is better. There are many flavored waters that taste good and good for your health. Herbal tea is another good option. You can test the foods you eat to decide which foods gives you most problems. Everyone reacts to foods in a different way. By controlling your portions and eating high acid foods moderately, you should be able to maintain an acid reflux diet without a lot of trouble.
