This New EBook Book Reader Manufactured By The Computer Giants Acer Inc. Set To Join Amazon Kindle

Acer Inc., no slouch when it comes to challenging in the notebook space, plans to enter the ebook book reader arena later this year.

Acer senior manager Jim Wong, president of the company's IT Products sector, outlined the tactics during an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's offices in Taipei.

On the eve of Apple's purported entrance into the tablet sweeps-a device that would serve e-book readers and others-Wong also said the company will furthermore offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs that will support Google's Android program, currently running on several Acer products, over and above having support for Microsoft's Windows OS.

By July, Acer is expected to make available an electronic-book reader with a 6-inch monochrome screen, Mr. Wong informed Bloomberg. "Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble; they are U.S.-centric. In Western Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and nearly everyone of them are content owners," he said. Acer would go up in opposition to models including the Amazon Kindle , Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Reader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.

Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it appears-in its sights. "We're developing something, and we should observe what happens" J.T. Wang, Acer's chairman, said in the report. "We are going to work either inside a Windows world or in Google's defined OS space."
